What Kiwis really think about open banking. Our latest research uncovered an interesting disconnect.   Only 32% of New Zealanders could correctly define open banking. But once people understood what it could actually do for them, the response was overwhelmingly positive.   More than half liked the idea of paying online directly from a bank account, over half saw value in using bank information to verify identity or account details, and 60% said a secure, authorised bank connection was essential.   For us, the takeaway is simple: people don't need to understand the technology behind open banking. They need to understand the value it delivers.   The opportunity isn't to get more Kiwis talking about open banking. It's to create experiences that are simpler, safer and more convenient. Yesterday we celebrated the Dutch Culture, with our Dutchie Paymarkers at the helm - and it was a pretty 'leuk' way to spend the afternoon! We learnt a bit about Dutch history and culture and tested our knowledge with a quiz. So many great facts, like the Dutch made carrots orange, there are more bikes than people in the country (24 million bikes to 18 million people) and that the wording of New Zealand comes from the province Zeeland, just to name a few. We then got stuck into some very important Dutch activities (eating!): oliebollen, kaas (cheese), Dutch stews and salads, and of course a few Heineken beers 🍻 There was also some serious competition over the Sjoelbak (Dutch shuffleboard) and plenty of oranje (orange) on display for our best dressed prize 🧡 A great chance to learn something new, try some lekker (delicious) food and celebrate the different cultures we have in our team. New Zealand's payments system needs to evolve. The Reserve Bank's latest paper highlights the need for greater competition, innovation, and investment in modern payments infrastructure that supports the movement of money throughout the economy. Who knew a hoodie could create so many conversations and smiles?

Today we were proud to welcome students from King's College and Tangaroa College to Cuscal Paymark as part of ShadowTech. ShadowTech gives young women the opportunity to step inside workplaces, meet role models, and gain firsthand insight into careers they may never have considered possible. While progress is being made, women still make up only around 29% of New Zealand's technology workforce. That means there is still important work to do to improve awareness, access, support, and pathways into technology and digital careers. Initiatives like ShadowTech matter because you can't be what you can't see. By connecting students with professionals who are already building careers in technology and much more, we can help broaden aspirations and challenge perceptions about who belongs in our industry. A huge thank you to our Cuscal Paymark team members who generously gave their time today to share their experiences, answer questions, and provide an authentic look into what working in technology is really like. These opportunities don't happen without the enthusiasm and commitment of our people.
