In certain types of speaking exercises I cannot move forward. No matter how clearly I pronounce, how silent it is in the room am of pronunciation, all of my answers are marked as wrong and I cannot move forward. It is a problem with the app with my phone as has been suggested. Somebody needs to be testing for this. I’m still in the free trial. But if this persists I’m not going to be paying for an app that doesn’t work properly. Certain types of speech exercises do work, but other certain types fail 100% of the time.Update: pronunciation exercises are impossible. I’m screaming into the microphone and it’s still not picking up on what I’m saying. I end up repeating the simplest exercises over and over again because it is simply not able to process the information. Waste of time.Of course when I contacted the creators they told me that I had to use earbuds completely silent space. I am in a completely silent space and it works even worse with earbuds with a microAlso just got to “milestone”. It is absolutely mystifying. There’s the most confusing of photos that are supposed to tell you what to answer but they are absolutely mysterious. A lady sitting with a book on her knees and a thermos on the floor? I cannot guess what you want me to say. A couple in the background and a hand in the foreground? A dog stealing food? Definitely didn’t learn any of this. They may think that they are creating a story that makes sense but they genuinely are not. And the answers they are pull out of thin air are things you did not learn in the lessons.Also, in the writing exercises, if you don’t understand what they’re saying then you’re out of luck. You simply have to skip the exercise and you will never know. At no point does it slow it down or give you the answer or tell you what you got wrong.

Using this app is frustrating and takes the fun out of learning. The app will stop processing what I’m saying into the mic or maybe it just stops using it. I know it’s not my phone because this issue has happened on 2 separate devices, one of which is brand new. It will hear me clearly for multiple slides and then not at all. I will toggle the mic button a few times, say the word or phrase again each time, yet it still does not hear me. The only fix is to clear the app and start over. The images are also very vague. Luckily my boyfriend speaks spanish so I can ask him to clarify what the new phrase is in regard to the image. I wish there was actual explanation behind what’s being taught instead of me having to figure it out.

I am extremely disappointed to see lifetime memberships are left with no option to upgrade. I previously purchased the lifetime membership because I appreciate the offering this app has above others. I definitely understand it would be impossible for the company to offer endless upgrades to the lifetime purchase. However, as someone who has sent a ton of feedback on the classic app, and where most of my feedback seems to have been solved with the sapphire update, I’m really disappointed to see there isn’t either a lifetime purchase option or a fee for an upgrade. Where I spent money on the lifetime purchase on the former version and this only seems like an upgrade to the UX it feels like my previous support is not valued where the content is very similar. Please add an option for lifetime support here! Subscription models are exhausting and I don’t see myself supporting this product in the future without the option. Consider doing what other products do and allowing purchase of the sapphire version and then you have room to communicate the next version will not be included in the lifetime purchase. Allowing some sort of single fee purchase is one of the things that set this app apart from the rest.

I’ve purchased the lifetime membership as many others had. I prefer the teaching style of Rosetta to the translation method of Duolingo. This app still runs very slowly with no ability to really track your progress. The audio lessons can feel overtly repetitive especially if the speaking sections don’t pick you up clearly; which they rarely do. It’s not from lack of trying. I have used separate devices, multiple pairs of headphones, the default mic and speaker and still had issues with failing a speaking lesson due to the app not picking up what I am saying. And this is in a quiet room. Frustrating experience to say the least and really sucked the fun out of learning. All feels like a bigger betrayal having just purchased the lifetime membership and having this released a few days later with another subscription model and same substandard audio/speaking experience.
