Chapter Intro
Your Teachers

Learn from industry leaders who have helped countless digital organizations create design systems, adopt new technologies, and work better together.

TJ Pitre
TJ Pitre

Product Architect for AI and Design Systems at Figma; founder of Southleft

TJ Pitre is Product Architect for AI and Design Systems at Figma, where he works on building better design systems tooling for design systems teams. He lives at the intersection of design systems and AI, focused on getting design system context structured well enough that AI agents can use it with near-total reliability. He’s equally invested in traditional, design-led systems and progressive, code-first workflows, and doesn’t think teams have to choose one to succeed with the other.

That focus comes out of 15+ years in design systems. TJ is founder of Southleft, a design systems and AI tooling studio, and has built tools including Figma Console MCP, Story UI, and the Design Systems Assistant MCP that put his thinking into practice. He is an active speaker and contributor in the design systems and AI community.

TJ lives in New Orleans, where he splits his time between building things and figuring out what to build next.

Testimonials

What people are saying about the course and community.

  • AI reshaped our workflows faster than any of us could document them, and this course is the first thing I've found that treats that as a systems problem instead of a tooling trend. The structure and pace are excellent, the resources are genuinely useful, the Jam Sessions and Slack community πŸ§‘πŸ»β€πŸ³πŸ’‹, topped off with questionable (okay, great) 80s references — this course rock my socks! Brad, Ian, and TJ clearly built this for practitioners doing the actual work.

  • The least toxic AI space I've encountered.

  • The price went up, but this AI & Design Systems Course is worth 2 or 3 times what this team is asking. It's not just a course, it's a community. I've thoroughly enjoyed the conversations on Slack, the monthly jam sessions, and all the knowledge folks are sharing. Props to Brad Frost, Ian Frost, and TJ Pitre for all of their hard work and continued support for those of us trying to keep up!

  • Both Subatomic and AI & Design Systems courses helped me consolidate my knowledge and elevate my understanding of how design systems should be built, communicated and understood. Brad, Ian and TJ crafted the materials of the course in a very practical, hand-on and detailed manner so that you can really learn how to put things in practice.

  • I truly get the warm fuzzies hanging with you all, I really feel the 'pro-human' vibes amongst the 'ai-one-upmanship' from everyone, let's keep raising all the ships with the tides.

  • I've just enrolled after hearing great things from my colleague and friend. Seeing the impact the course, community and ongoing learning have had on her made it an easy decision.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to the questions we get most. Can't find an answer here? Just drop us a line.

Is the course complete?

Yes! All six chapters are complete and live, with over 20 hours of videos, demos, resources, and links, including the full ten-station design system inspection and the entire product-workflow chapter.

Chapters 5 and 6 are living chapters. As new tools and patterns emerge, we talk about them in the community and record new lessons. You get every one of them free, along with every update after that.

How is the course paced? Is it self-paced or live?

The course is fully self-paced. You can work through the videos and resources on whatever schedule suits you, and new lessons go up as we add them.

The Jam Sessions are optional live sessions we host every other week. They're a chance to ask questions, see fresh demos, and connect with the community, but there's zero pressure to attend. If you can't make them live, we record and share them so you can catch up whenever it works for you.

AI moves fast. Will this course go stale?

It's the thing we designed against from day one. Two ways we handle it:

  • We teach durable concepts, not just today's buttons. Tools change constantly; the underlying workflows—inspecting your system, giving AI real constraints, keeping design and code synchronized, gating quality—outlast any particular product. When a tool changes, you'll know what it was for.
  • We keep adding to it. New demos land as new patterns emerge, especially in Chapter 5. All updates are free for life, and the biweekly Jam Sessions are where the newest stuff shows up first.

Durable concepts first, fresh demos continuously. This course will never be "finished," and that's exactly the point.

What exactly do I get?
  • Over 20 hours of video across all six chapters, plus every new lesson we add
  • Slack community access to a supportive, helpful, and respectful space for practitioners to learn from one another while working through this AI moment together
  • Free updates for life—every new video, demo, and resource as soon as it's released
  • Biweekly live Jam Sessions with TJ, Brad, and Ian
  • Sample architectures, demos, and resources to apply directly to your own work
  • A certificate of completion for your resume and LinkedIn
Will there be a certificate of completion?

Yes! Work your way through the course and you'll get a certificate of completion. Stick it on your resume, share it at work and over on LinkedIn, and hold it up triumphantly against anybody who needs to see your AI & design systems expertise on full display.

Can I purchase multiple licenses for my team?

Absolutely. 3 or more licenses gets you an automatic 20% discount at checkout.

If you order multiple licenses, the email that purchased the course can assign the other seats to different team member's email addresses from inside the course platform. They'll each get their own login and can work at their own pace.

Are there discounts available?

Yes! Email us and we'll try to provide a discount for any of the following:

  • Monthly payment plan available for the individual license option
  • Regional / purchasing power parity (PPP) pricing for folks outside the US whose local economy makes the full price disproportionately steep
  • Job-hunter discount if you're between roles and using this time to upskill
  • Student discount if you're enrolled in an undergrad, master's, or other academic program
  • Team / multi-license discount (20% off automatically at 3+ seats)

Just include a quick note about your situation when you write in.

Can I pay via invoice or get a company invoice after purchase?

You certainly can! While purchasing via the checkout makes our lives easier, we can also send you an invoice. Just Email us with the following and we'll send an invoice over:

  • Email address
  • First name
  • Last name
  • Company
  • Address Line 1
  • Address Line 2 (if applicable)
  • Country
  • City
  • State/Province/Region
  • Zip/Postal
  • VAT / Tax ID (if applicable)

If you've already purchased via the checkout and just need an invoice for your records, just email us and we'll get one over to you.

How do I join the Slack community?

Once you've joined, you'll receive a Slack invite via email. If you didn't see it, check your spam folder first. If it still hasn't arrived, just send us an email and we'll get you taken care of.

The Slack community is one of the best parts of this course! It's a refreshingly thoughtful, helpful, and respectful space for practitioners to learn from one another while working through this AI moment together.
